Rua Whenua is the second largest island of New Duveland, and is comprised of the entirety of province of Norfolk, as such it is often simply referred to as the Norfolk Mainland by islanders and New Duvelanders alike. It is separated from the New Duveland mainland to the west by the Bellona Strait, and is surrounded by the Taranui Sea to the north, the Aotea Sea to the east (which separates it from New Zealand's North Island, as well as the Hokitika Strait to the south.
While it is New Duveland's second largest landmass, it only accounts for 6.79% of the nation's total area, whereas it accounts for more than 96% of Norfolk's entire territory. With a population of 1,100,916 as of 2024, it is the third most population island in New Duveland behind the mainland, and Île de L'Espérance in Lapérouse. All of Norfolk's largest settlements are found on the island, including the capital and largest city of the province, Cascade.
