Germany's defeat in World War I forced it to renounce all her rights over her overseas possessions to the Allied Powers; including therein Neu Westfalen. On the 28th of June, 1919 the Treaty of Versallies gave the mandate for Neu Westfalen to the New Duveland, whom would oversee its transition into a democratic nation by 1925 - when it was granted independence. It remained in free association with New Duveland until 1938, but chose not to join the League of Nations.
Today the successor state is known as the Federal Republic of New Westfalen, commonly pronounced: Neu Westfalen. It still maintains a close relationship with Germany.
