List of cities in New Duveland by population
A city in New Duveland is defined as a township or urban area with a population over 10,000 inhabitants. Any areas with a population below this threshold are classified as rural communities. Currently, around 86.54% of New Duveland's population lives in urban areas, making it one of the most urbanised countries in the world. This trend is slowly rising as more and more people are moving into the capitals, such as Macquarie, Tasbury, and Espérance, in search of better opportunities, access to essential services, and a higher quality of life. These cities offer a wide range of amenities, including healthcare facilities, educational institutions, entertainment venues, and shopping centres, among others. The availability of these resources and services, along with the greater concentration of employment opportunities in urban areas, is driving the trend towards urbanisation in New Duveland. As a result, many smaller towns and rural communities are experiencing depopulation and declining economic activity, which is contributing to a growing urban-rural divide in the country. Despite these challenges, the government of New Duveland is working to address the needs of both urban and rural communities and promote sustainable development across the country.
Greater capital city statistical areas by population[edit | edit source]
In New Duveland, each of the nine provincial and territory capital cities is recognized as a unique entity, forming its own Greater Capital City Statistical Area (GCCSA). The NDBS defines the GCCSA as a broad functional definition that includes the surrounding areas that have a significant degree of social and economic connection to the respective capital city. The GCCSA is a significant tool used by the NDBS to understand the demographic and economic characteristics of the capital cities and their surrounding regions.
Despite the importance of the GCCSA for statistical analysis, the population figures of the capital cities are most commonly referred to based on their Significant Urban Areas (SUAs). The SUAs represent areas of significant towns and cities, or agglomerations of smaller towns, that have at least 10,000 total population. The SUAs provide a more accurate representation of the actual population of a city, as they exclude surrounding areas that are not directly linked to the urban center.

Significant urban areas by population[edit | edit source]
The table provided below lists the most significant urban areas in New Duveland, including the capital cities, which are often smaller than their respective Greater statistical areas. The ranking is based on the total population of these urban areas, which are defined to represent significant towns and cities or agglomerations of smaller towns with a minimum population of 10,000. It is important to note that some of these significant urban areas may contain more than one distinct Urban Centre. These units correspond broadly to the international concept of metropolitan areas.
The top ten most populous cities in New Duveland account for almost 60% of the country's total population. This highlights the concentration of the population in the urban areas of the country, with a majority of New Duvelanders living in or around these major cities. While the cities in the list are diverse in terms of their geography, demographics, and economic activity, they all contribute significantly to the country's growth and development. By providing infrastructure, services, and job opportunities, these urban areas attract people from all over the country and contribute to the country's overall prosperity.
