Lisburn Trains Metro network

Lisburn Trains Metro (LTM for short) is a railway operator in McKenzie, New Duveland. Owned by the McKenzie Government, it operates local and long-distance passenger services throughout the metro population of greater Lisburn. The network is a hybrid urban-suburban rail system with 140 stations on six lines.

Rolling stock[edit | edit source]

The majority of rolling stock is owned by the McKenzie Government business enterprise TrainLink McK. Lisburn Trains Metro is responsible for maintaining the train fleet. All trains on the Lisburn suburban network are electric similar to the ones on the Melbourne suburban rail network, operated by drivers, and fitted with power-operated sliding doors which are closed by the driver, but opened by passengers. The doors of newer Wakatere and Haerenga trains are opened by a button, but the Hikorere trains are opened using handles. Trains also have inter-car doors to enable passengers to change carriages while in transit. All trains are fitted with air conditioning, closed-circuit cameras, and emergency intercom systems. Trains are fixed into three car units, and may operate alone or in pairs.

In September 2016, the McKenzie Government ordered 65 new High Capacity Wakatere Trains for delivery from 2019. The entire number of Hikorere trains are expected to retire by 2030, and replaced entirely by the Wakatere models.

Services and lines[edit | edit source]

Lisburn's six-line network employs "clock-face" timetables during off-peak periods, ensuring consistent and predictable service intervals. However, during peak periods, the network does not adhere to these timetables due to the need to maximize infrastructure capacity and accommodate various constraints, such as single-line sections, flat junctions, and regional electric trains. Despite the use of clock-face timetables in off-peak times, service frequencies still vary based on the time of day, day of the week, and specific line. In certain areas, the services of two lines overlap, providing more frequent service on shared track sections. Weekend services are consistent during the day on both Saturdays and Sundays, although evening schedules differ for some lines. Additionally, Sunday morning services commence later than on Saturdays and run at reduced frequencies until approximately 10am, reflecting lower demand during the early hours of the day.

The underground connection at Lisburn Central Station allows for direct transfers to all other lines.
The new elevated Richmond station, part of the Level Crossing Removal Project in the city's north.
New high-capacity Wakatere trains will eventually replace all the ageing Hikorere trains.
The two stations at the airport are some of the newest in the entire network, both opening in 2019.
The new airport link and the Laganville - Monaca Line have opened up former industrial sites for huge urban-renewal projects, such as at Sheraden.
  •  Portulla North - Kenepuru Line 
    • This line serves the northern and south-western suburbs through the city centre
    • It has NDLoop connections at Lisburn Central and Central Newtown
    • Regional TrainLink McK connections also connect to the line at Rae, Rathvarna, Rererangi, and Portulla North.
    • Starts at Portulla North, heads south towards the city centre and connects with the Nihotaumata - Woodlands Line at Dungloe, continuing south towards Lisburn's city centre, with connections to the Laganville - Monaca Line at North Lisburn, and the rest of the network at Lisburn Central Station, heading south-east to Bulbin Station and then south to it's terminus at Kenepuru.


  •  Nihotaumata - Woodlands Line 
    • The line serves the city's outer & inner western suburbs
    • It has NDLoop connections at Lisburn Central
    • Regional TrainLink McK connections also connect to the line at Bulbin, Lisburn Central, Rae, and Nihotaumata.
    • Starting in the north-western terminus of Nihotaumata, heading east connecting to the Portulla North - Kenepuru Line at Dungloe, running alongside eachother to the city centre, heading east towards Blubin before heading north-west connecting to the terminus of the Laganville - Monaca Line at Laganville, and continuing north-west rowards the terminus at Woodlands.


  •  Laganville - Monaca Line 
    • The line serves the city's south-east suburbs and inner west
    • The Laganville - Monaca line is the newest line in the network, added as part of the Airport Railway expansion, and continues underground through the city's inner west suburbs to Laganville on the Nihotaumata - Woodlands Line
    • Has NDLoop connections at Lisburn Central
    • Staring at a new transfer station at Laganville to connect to the Nihotaumata - Woodlands Line, before heading east to the inner city, reconnecting to the Nihotaumata - Woodlands Line, as well as the Portulla North - Kenepuru Line at North Lisburn. Travels underground south-east of the city centre alongside the Airport line towards Tūhanapolis, before heading south to the terminus station at Monaca.


  •  North Irwin - Billis Line 
    • The line serves the city's north-east and southern suburbs
    • It has NDLoop connections at Lisburn Central and North Irwin
    • Regional TrainLink McK connections also connect to the line at Kilcar, Dungloe, and Billis.
    • Tranverses the city in a north-east to south-west direction, starting at Billis, heading north to the urban renewal The Docks station to the city centre, passing through Lisburn Central where it connects to all the other lines in the network. The line continues north-east, splitting from the Ruānuku - Eastern Suburbs Line at Gilford where it heads north-east to the North Irwin terminus.


  •  Airport Line 
    • The Airport Line serves as the city's main connection to the airport
    • Tunnel shares track alongside the Laganville - Monaca Line, but runs express from Tūhanapolis, to Kennedy, Sheraden, and terminates at Lisburn Central
    • The Airport Line has NDLoop & regional TrainLink McK connections at Lisburn Central
    • The line terminates underground at Lisburn Central, following the Laganville - Monaca Line south-east until Tūhanapolis, before heading towards the city's airport with a stop at the domestic and international terminals, before looping back towards Lisburn Central.


  •  Ruānuku - Eastern Suburbs Line 
    • It serves the city's eastern and western suburbs
    • The line splits into two lines after Sawmill Valley, north-east to Moncity, and south-east to Kairori
    • It has NDLoop connections at Lisburn Central
    • Regional TrainLink McK connections also connect to the line at Moncity, Kairori, Sawmill Valley, Lisburn Central, Bulbin and Ruānuku.
    • The line has a western terminus at Ruānuku, with the line heading east towards Lisburn Central, before joining the Nihotaumata - Woodlands and Portulla North - Kenepuru lines at Bulbin, heading through the city centre and connecting to all other lines at Lisburn Central. Heading east towards Sawmill Valley, where the line splits in two, with the north-east branch terminating at Moncity, and south-east to Kairori
