Kurosaki Ichigo International Airport (黒崎 一護国際空港, Kurosaki Ichigo Kokusai Kūkō) (IATA: KIT, ICAO: RTKA) or KIIA, also known as New Kaijo International Airport, is an international airport located on an artificial island in the middle of Kaijo Bay off the Kyushu shore, 30km northeast of Hakata Station, located within the jurisdiction of Manato in Kaijo. The airport serves as the primary international gateway to Teiko. The airport is named after Teikonian samurai and scholar Kurosaki Ichigo, the first person from Teiko to fly across the pacific.

Kurosaki Ichigo International Airport opened in June 2019 to relieve overcrowding at the original Shouzo Nijimura International Airport, referred to as Old Kaijo International Airport, which is closer to Kaijo Metropolis and now handles mainly domestic flights and selected international flights from East Asia. It consists of two terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, is one of the longest airport terminal in the world with a length of 1.7 km. The airport serves as an international hub for Teiko Airlines, and Rakuzan Air Systems. A third and fourth terminal as well as two additional runways are currently being constructed and will be completed by 2025.

In 2019-2020 prior to the lockdown measures implemented by the federal government due to the coronavirus pandemic, the airport handled a record breaking more than 58 million passengers, making it the busiest airport in Teiko and among the busiest in the world. In 2020, Kurosaki Ichigo International Airport was among the top 10 best airports in the world according to Skytrax.

Terminals[edit | edit source]

Kurosaki Ichigo International Airport currently has two operating terminals with an additional two terminals being constructed. All terminals are connected by a people mover system.

Terminal 1[edit | edit source]

Terminal 1 is the main terminal of the airport. Due to its length, there is a dedicated people mover system designed for Terminal 1 which moves passengers from one end of the pier to the other.

The terminal's roof is shaped like an airfoil. This shape is used to promote air circulation through the building: giant air conditioning ducts blow air upwards at one side of the terminal, circulate the air across the curvature of the ceiling, and collect the air through intakes at the other side. Mobiles are suspended in the ticketing hall to take advantage of the flowing air.

Terminal 1 is designed with several amenities including a mall, hotel, and convention center. The airport's main parking building is also located beside Terminal 1.

Terminal 2[edit | edit source]

Terminal 2 primarily serves low-cost carriers by providing lower landing fees than Terminal 1. More than 80% of its capacity is occupied by Peach Aviation and Ryukyu Air.

Terminal 3[edit | edit source]

Terminal 3 is currently being constructed, upon completion by 2025, it will be exclusively used by Teiko Airlines.

Terminal 4[edit | edit source]

Terminal 4 is currently being constructed, upon completion by 2025, the new terminal will be used for domestic flights and flights coming from East Asia.
