The Korokan (鴻臚館, Korokan) is the official residence and workplace of the Daijō-daijin. It is located at Dazaifu, Tetsuya, and has been the residence of every Daijō-daijin since Takashi Natsume since 1990. The term Korokan is often used as a metonym for the Daijō-daijin, Daijō-kan, and his advisers, as in "The Korokan announced that...". Despite being the official workplace and residence, parts of the residence has been opened for public viewing and the building has become of the top attractions in Tetsuya. There is no English translation for Korokan.
The residence's design was inspired by traditional Teikonian architecture especially Teikonian castle designs. Built in the original site of the first bureaucracy office established by the Yamato government in 701 AD, the design of Korokan follows traditional Teikonian architecture paying homage to the once capital of diplomacy in the Japonic archipelago during the antiquity. Despite the medieval facade however, Korokan has been built to incorporate modern and sophisticated security, transportation and communication features. The building is connected to the underground people mover system which connects the it to nearby government offices and venues.
