Kazuhito (和仁, Kazuhito, 30 November 1965 – 19 November 2016) was the 7th Prince of Teiko reigning from 1 October 1985 until his death on 19 November 2016. Kazuhito acceded to the Throne of Teiko in 1985 at the age of 24 after his grandfather abdicated in the aftermath of the Teiko constitutional crises. He was succeeded by his son, Kiyoshi.

At the start of his reign, Teiko was suffering from the effects of the domestic political turmoil that has left the country with dire economic problems. The nation was also under heavy competition with neighboring Japan, South Korea and Oka over trade. By the end of his term, Teiko emerged as one of the best performing economies in the world having an average GDP growth of 6.8% boosted by infrastructure spending, strong trade balance, and increased spending in research and development.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Prince Kazuhito was born in November 1960. His father was Jun, Crown Prince of Teiko and Tanigawa Yuko. When he was just 14 years old, Kazuhito lost both his parents in an accident in 1975.

In 1980, he became Kazuhito, Crown Prince of Teiko after reaching the age of majority. He later succeeded his grandfather in October 1985 after Prince Msayuki abdicated due to several issues related to strong backslash over his interference with national politics that have stirred the 1984 Teiko constitutional crises. Kazuhito's enthronement was done on August 1986.

Death[edit | edit source]

Marriage and children[edit | edit source]

The couple met when they were both undergraduates at the Teiko National University. Like his father, Kazuhito married outside the former aristocracy and former collateral branches of the royal family.
