Kaito Yanase (柳瀬 海斗, Yanase Kaito, born 26 October 2000) is a Teikonian politician who is currently serving as Minister for Social Welfare and Development since February 2024.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
The real parents of Kaito Yanase are unknown. In 1998, he was adopted by Yuu Yanase and Chiaki Yoshino. However, it was not until 2014 after the passage of the Same-Sex Marriage Act that Yoshino became a legal guardian of Yanase.
Yanase completed his compulsory education at Ouran Academy and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Kaijo.
Early political career[edit | edit source]
In October 2021, Kaito Yanase announced his intention to run for a Royal Council seat under the banner of the National Party. Yanase contested Sendai, a Liberal Party bailiwick. He lost to Ryu Guji by nearly 29,000 votes but was elected through proportional representation. Yanase's performance in the 2021 general elections was among the best for any National candidate in Sendai having garnered a swing of more than 22%.
Kaito Yanase took his oath of office on 25 November 2021.
In a speech to the plenary, Yanase has expressed his plan to propose a bill providing a universal basic income in the country. Yanase explains that such policy will aid those who are in the bottom of the society the most. Yanase also mentioned that a universal basic income is a form of social justice to those who are underprivileged.[1]

Yanase has expressed strong support for progressive policies including legalization of marijuana, higher wages, and more efforts on tackling climate change.

Kaito Yanase is the adoptive son of Yuu Yanase and Chiaki Yoshino. He is a close friend of Hayato Akashi in which incidentally both men are raised by two fathers.
Yanase can play the piano, saxophone, and guitar. He can also speak Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese.
Yanase is openly homosexual and is in a relationship with Lee Jeno.
