Elections in Teiko

The Teikonian political process has two types of elections.

  • General elections of members of the Royal Council (衆議院議員総選挙, Shūgi-in giin sō-senkyo) held every four years (unless the Royal Council is dissolved earlier).
  • Unified local elections (統一地方選挙, Tōitsu chihō senkyo) held every four years for offices in prefectures and districts.

Elections in Teiko are held for government officials at the federal, prefectural, and local levels. At the federal level, members of the Royal Council, the federal legislature are elected via direct vote from their respective constituencies or via the proportional system. The Daijō-daijin is then selected from the members of the Royal Council. There are also unified local elections for electing offices at the local level, in prefectures, in cities, districts, villages, and other recognized administrative units. By law, both general and unified local elections in the country happens every four years but general elections can occurs when the Royal Council is dissolved earlier.

All forms of elections are supervised by an election committees at each administrative level under the general direction of the National Electoral Commission, an independent agency tasked by the Constitution of Teiko to supervise and review election processes. The minimum voting age is eighteen years, voters must also satisfy a three-month residency requirement before being allowed to cast a ballot for representative and officials in their district. For those seeking office, there is a different age requirement which is twenty-one years of age for admission to the Royal Council and most local offices including mayoralty and governorship. The amount of deposit required for candidacies varies from one office to another but is standard across all localities.
