Blois is a lakeside city located on La Devereaux (Devereaux River) and Lac de la Triouzoune (Triouzoune Lake), in the province of Devereaux, New Duveland, 300 kilometres north of the province capital, Toulon. It is the second largest Deveraussien city, with an estimated urban population of 514,985 as at January 2024, having grown 2.5 percent since April 2015.
Settled in the early 19th century, Blois is the second oldest city in Devereaux, and has grown considerable amounts compared to other non-capital cities.
The city's location between the Lac de la Triouzoune and La Devereaux has caused both positive and negative impacts. While the city is one of the most popular sites for water-sports in the country, it is also prone to severe flooding, with the most notable and recent event being the 2008-09 floods, which peaked at 5 metres, a new historic high. This is due to the flat terrain surrounding the city, and it's close proximity to the Ustou Mountains, which has a direct rainwater runoff into Lac de la Triouzoune.
The city has become a centre of finance and manufacturing, and is often considered the capital of Northern Devereaux, with it's economic impact bringing in half the province's agricultural produce and easy export down La Devereaux.
The city has greatly diversified since it's establishment, with many large wool mills, ropeworks, and paper mills operating in the city, alongside automobile manufacturing plants, food production and has recently become a large financial centre, which can be very visable given the city's dense downtown core, known as "La Nouville", an area that was planned out in the early 20th century to help expand the city from it's original colonial layouts, which have since gone through the process of Gentrification.
Today, Blois stands as an emerging health, education and advanced manufacturing hub. The city's economy is powering through to new heights, seeing growth in almost every sector of the economy, positioning itself as one of the leading non-capital New Duveland cities.
