Atlántida (Baliscano: [aˈtlantiða]; Kurupiran: Semlikkan, meaning "windy land") is an island in the Baliscan archipelago. It is the most populous island in the Baliscan archipelago and the world's third most populous island, behind Indonesia's Java, and Japan's Honshu. Additionally, it is the sixth largest island in the world, after Baffin Island.

Atlántida had a population of over 100 million as of 2021, mostly concentrated in the coastal areas and valleys. Approximately a quarter of the total population resides in the Castejón Metropolis in the Alpujarra. As the historical center of Baliscan cultural and political power, the island includes several former Baliscan capitals, including Navassa and Alessandria. Much of the island's southeastern shore forms part of Concordia, a conurbation that makes up one of the world's most populous urban areas.

Most of Balisca's service and manufacturing industry is located in a belt running along Atlántida's southeastern coast, from Valparaíso to Jatiel, Yerba Buena, Castejón, and Alessandria; by contrast, the economy along the northwestern coast of Balisca is largely based on fishing and agriculture. The island is linked to the other three major Baliscan islands by a multi-modal system of bridges and tunnels.

Climate[edit | edit source]

Atlántida's climate is predominantly temperate maritime (Köppen: Cfb), with mean annual temperatures ranging from 10 °C (50 °F) in the south to 16 °C (61 °F) in the north. Historical maxima and minima are 42.4 °C (108.32 °F) in Aigües (Quiscosta) and −25.6 °C (−14.08 °F) in Cordova (Basilisco). Conditions vary sharply across regions from extremely wet on the West Coast to semi-arid in Jaguarundi. Of the ten largest cities, Castejón is the driest, receiving on average only 618 millimetres (24.3 in) of rain per year and Kimünrayen the wettest, receiving almost twice that amount. Alessandria, Kimünrayen and Castejón all receive a yearly average of more than 2,000 hours of sunshine.

The southern and southwestern parts of Atlántida have a cooler and cloudier climate, with around 1,400–1,600 hours; the northern and northwestern parts Atlántida the sunniest areas of the country and receive about 2,400–2,500 hours. The general snow season is early June until early October, though cold snaps can occur outside this season. Snowfall is common in the eastern and southern parts of the island and mountain areas across the country.
