AINVision Espérance 2024 is the 23rd semi-annual AINVision Song Contest, which is set to take place in Espérance, New Duveland after they successfully won the hosting rights at Kapaii 2023. While they placed second behind the host nation, new rules determined that nations cannot host twice in a row. This is the third time New Duveland will host such an event, with the first two being the Plymouth 2017 and Tasbury 2018 editions, and six years since the last time the nation has hosted, but the first time it will be hosted in one of it's Francophonie provinces, Lapérouse.
Host City[edit | edit source]
The host city, Espérance, was announced shortly after the results from Kapaii were released, and the venue will be held at the the city's largest indoor stadium, the Centre Vidéotron just outside of the city's entral business district and directly next to the city's iconic La Tour de Union.
Espérance, the capital and largest city of Lapérouse, is the second-most populous city in New Duveland, with an estimated population of 3.7 million residing in the Greater Espérance region. Situated on the Hukanui Coastal Plain, the city sprawls between the Mourelle Strait and the Anselme Ranges. About 2/5th of the metropolitan population resides on Île de L'Espérance, an island to the east of the mainland, dividing Espérance's waterfront into North Bay and South Bay. Established as a French convict settlement in 1813 by Captain Côme Anselme, Espérance quickly grew into a thriving urban centre. It gained city status in 1850 and was elevated to the status of a Lord Theirn in 1920. The city experienced significant population growth during the Lapérousian gold rushes of the late 19th century, attracting immigrants from France and other South Pacific colonies. Espérance played a strategic role during World War II, serving as a base for submarines and hosting a US Navy Catalina flying boat fleet. Post-war immigration, primarily from European countries, fuelled further population growth, while mining booms in the late 20th and early 21st centuries solidified Espérance's position as a regional economic hub.
